Midwest dealer scores big with RVM's PURL promo

FORT WORTH, Texas - The luck of the Irish was everywhere in a recent St. Paddy's Day promotion, according to Randy Bowling, vice president at Bowling RV, which is located in Ottumwa, Iowa.

'We are always looking for new ways to promote our business and when Randy suggested a new feature of RVM Promotion's direct mail program, we were intrigued, but not sure how it would factor into our event,' he explained.

'Wow, we were elated with the added sales that were generated by adding a personal URL (PURL) for prospects to find out what the value of their RV was - even if they had no plans to attend the event and had no intention of buying a new RV this year,' said Bowling.

The invitation to "Find Out What your RV is Really Worth" quickly grabs attention as it is strategically placed next to the prospect's name and address on the mail panel, said Randy Adams, owner of RVM Promotions, who has added the PURL feature to recent dealer direct mail programs.

"It's very difficult to pass over the invitation to find out what your RV is worth," said Adams. "Once a sales professional from the dealership calls with the information the prospect is first encouraged to attend the open house, bring in their unit for final evaluation, and they wind up buying a new or pre-owned RV - which was not in their plans that weekend."

Bowling added, "This was one of the best returns on investment that we have ever had for an open house. Randy's direct mail promotions are always successful, but this new feature is something dealers will really want to look at for their next direct mail piece.

"Three of the 27 units we sold over the weekend were to prospects who were not planning on coming in for the promotion, but they were curious to see what their RV was really worth," he added. "The profit from those three sales came close to paying for the entire promotion.

"We've never experienced anything like this before - just off the charts - and we are still working the leads and expect this number to go up," said Bowling.

"These results clearly validate our innovative PURL program," said Adams. Assuming even an above average 3% attendance on a 10,000 piece mailer means there are 9700 people who, for one reason or another, are not coming in for that particular weekend promotion. It is primarily from this group that we see additional sales from the PURL.

"Even selling just one unit from the PURL can offset 50 percent of the cost of a typical 10,000-piece mailer," he added. "In Bowling RV's case, the PURL profits effectively reduced the final cost of a $10,000 mailer all the way down to approximately $2,500. Combined with the very successful use of our Credit Score Predictor names, our dealers have experienced exceptional results and many have mailed twice in the first quarter of 2017."

Texas dealer: 'Best lot promotion in January'

GEORGETOWN, Texas - RV Outlet Mall Sales Manager Jason Kronmiller reports that the recent early bird spectacular lot promotion was "our most successful January promotion in the 20-plus years we've been here."

The event was held Jan. 19 to 21 and included free food, a chance to win a $5,000 cash grand prize or one of 10 $500 cash prizes, two highly-discounted parts specials in addition to nine units with low pricing and payments.

RVM Promotions in Fort Worth, Texas, handled all the advertising, including the direct mail complemented by an email and Facebook ads.

"We were slammed all weekend and were particularly pleased with the quality of the prospects, with 85 percent of buyers making it through credit. We sold more units than we ever have on a January weekend," Kronmiller added. "We attribute a lot of that to the extensive time Randy took in developing the optimum mailing list, incorporating both names from our database along with names in our market that we did not have.

"We were provided a detailed mileage report and were able to see exactly how far out we went with both sets of names. End result, the ROI came in much higher than we anticipated," he added.

"I was amazed that we started working on a proof at 9 a.m. and had it signed off by 4:30 p.m. the same day, and out the very next day. I've never seen that kind of turnaround before," said Kronmiller.

2017's first RV lot promotion a great success

FORT WORTH, Texas - RVM Promotions' Randy Adams reports that the Jan. 6 to 8 Annual Cabin Fever Sale at Pete's RV in South Burlington, Vt., experienced a huge turnout with brisk sales that came in above the dealer's goals.

A record number of postcards were brought in by prospective buyers. The promotion included free food, a free gift and a chance to win a $5,000 cash grand prize or one of 10 $500 cash prizes, Adams explained.

As reported last week in RV Daily Report, RVM Promotions recorded a record 15 cash winners over a recent 18 month period.

"Pete's RV is nationally recognized and has been on the leading edge of Internet advertising for several years and yet recognizes and continues to successfully use direct mail for their lot promotions. This is the eighth consecutive year I've enjoyed working with Pete's on this promotion," said Adams.

"We've used direct mail for over 25 years and have never had more success than we have enjoyed the last several years working with Randy. The value, the service, the consistency are all there. Direct mail has and will to continue to be an integral part of our marketing," said Chad Shepard, director of sales.

According to Adams, dealers that mail in the first two months of the year experience maximum residual benefit by having their advertising piece in the homes of prospects before the spring buying season.

"Our most successful clients understand this benefit and mail in either January or February and then follow up a couple of months later with their annual spring promotion, said Adams. It is not uncommon for dealers to tell us in March or April that they sold a unit to somebody who walked in and said they had held on to the mailer they had received a couple of months earlier."

RVM Promotions reports record 15 cash winners
